This may be a questions beyond even the "lounge" forum, but I am having a problem viewing the various .wmv links in the posts on this site. Whenever I click on the icon I get a new window which seems to be trying to play the clip in quicktime. However this is never sucessful and I ultimately get the quicktime logo with a questions mark over it. This happens with both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
I have researched and can't find an answer to this one. Any help would be appreciated since I feel I am missing out on some funny postings.
By the way, I have a Dell computer running Windows XP Media Edition. I do have the current versions of both Quicktime and Windows Media Player installed.
Thanks and I hope this isn't too far off topic.

Only thing I can think of is go into Windows Media Player and make sure it is the default player for .wmv files... Open the player and go to Options.

You can also change the file type association in any Windows Explorer window, or in the Control Panel window (like I have done below). Go to Tools...Folder Options.
Highlight the WMV extension, and then click on the Change button. You can then select Windows Media Player.

I tried both these things and all the settings seem to be correct to have Media Player play these files.
Every time I click on an imbedded wmv link I get a new browser window, the Quicktime logo comes up as if it was going to show the clip in Quicktime but then the application seems to fail and I get the quicktime logo with a question mark over it. Moreover, I cannot left click and get the option to "open with".
When I copy the link to my desktop it shows as a link to a web url if I click on it I get the same result if I click on it and try and open it (Quicktime nonsense described above).
Any other ideas??

I have the same problem with my computer. I usually right click on the file name and "save as" once it's downloaded I watch it and delete. Try it...it works for me.

seems to be because the video files on here are given a bogus double file extension, ".wmv.avi", which I always assumed was an issue with the board software? I just d/l the file to the desktop and remove the .avi and it works fine. It's not a quicktime issue, it's expecting to be called into action for any .avi extensions ans something is adding the .avi extension on to the existing .wmv

I agree, that seems to be the problem. Kind of a pain to have to save and rename the file rather than just get the streaming video.
Thanks for the help everyone.
