But then you'd have to live in Texas.

if you want to stay within your budget, and live in California... You have have to get at least 1 or maybe 2 roomates.... Craigslist is a great resource... My brother has a nice house(2,500SQF with a big lot swimming pool, jacuzzi etc.) in Cerritos, and rents out 3 of his bedrooms for $600-$750/month each. Location is good, nice clean quiet city. Close to OC and LA, and moderately priced.

But if you have a 1 or 2 roomates, you can probably move to Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa or Fountain Valley and get close to the water...

My wife and I lived in San Francisco for 8+ years, but am born and raised in New York City (Manhattan - Upper West Side, to be exact ). I LOVED California. Didn't care much for Southern California (Sorry guys, no offense), but loved NorCal. I would do it. You can always move back to your roots. Take a chance. Live a little .

As Americans, I always find that people have a hard time stepping outside their comfort zone. You need to take risks in life. Afterall, with risk can come reward. Go for it! You won't regret it!
