Have a new V1 - just purchased last week to replace the old V1 that was stolen. Be advised that the New V1 units have added protection for POP laser - you might want to send your current unit in for an upgrade. I think they charge $40

Okay, CR, but I find it a lot easier and less distracting to look in the rear view mirror area than to drop the eyes back to the instrument cluster. I discovered this while driving a friend's vehicle who had the remote V1 installed.

Good point, now if they could get it to come up in the HUD....

joe540, Thanks for the update on the V1.

Hard-wired 8500. Laser-shifting is illegal here in California, which is a drag, as our local dept now has a couple of laser guns.

Joe, I don't believe the V1 has had any upgrade to deal with the traffic radar pop mode. What's your source on this?

My new V1 arrived last week. It had an announcement in it that it now had Pop Capability. That was a pleasant surprise.

Joe, it would cost $229 + 6.50 shipping to upgrade my eight year old model. Mr. Valentine says it is still not cost effective in his opinion. I'm always tempted, but never have done it yet, based on Valentine's recommendation.

Ditto to pharding - my V1 arrived 2 days ago with an addendum to the manual explaining the new POP mode detection. I didn't know it existed. It worked flawlessly on I75 in south GA where I got many tickets back in the day.

Nice installs. Where can I find these instructions for the direct wire mount up by the mirror?

That's interesting. When I enter my 2 year old unit's serial number into the upgrade check on their web site, it replies that I have the "latest" technology, and the web site says nothing about V1 pop mode capability.

I wonder how Valentine has implemented this feature. In the future the pop mode could operate on any frequencies in the existing traffic radar bands, I have my doubts about the completeness of this coverage. In order for it to be thorough, the unit would have to rapidly scan all bands and be able to "see" extremely short bursts at any frequency. I wonder if they are only looking at the specific frequency(ies) currently used for the pop mode.

Anyone have technical details?
