i cant install my printer. this is bullcrap. now i am pissed. so much for the vista drivers working with 7.

What do you have, an HP? They still don't have their Win7 drivers released yet. My Vista drivers worked after an upgrade from Vista 64 to Win7 64.

Also, you can try to install the Vista drivers using compatibility mode when running the installer.

Yeah, compatibility mode is pretty great.

My HP solutions center installed, but doesn't really work... I guess HP will release drivers and complete software packages for Win7 soon though. It needs to before the Oct 22nd release date!

i am able to print. i have the printer hooked up to my router and my comp connected to it wirelessly. i am not sure if the inability to scan is because of that. i may need to USB the pc to the printer.

I'm sure that HP will iron it all out once they release the official drivers and software package.

I know that for some Wireless connected printers, you need to initiate the scan from the printer itself. Select the name of the connected wireless node (the PC) and then initiate the scan. In either case, it usually requires some software support on the PC (USB or WiFi).

Does Windows Fax and Scan work?

If/When you go with Apple you'll see you WILL forget the notion of drivers (and the headaches that come with them), not to mention searching forums on how to install printers with compatibility and other BS.

As someone said: "To mess up a Linux / OS X box you really have to work on it; with Windows you just need to work with it."

No. In fact my advice is don't buy an iMac. The reasons is that if you want to upgrade your Mac to a SSD or more RAM it would be a pain with an iMac. Don't get me wrong, i have an iMac 24" and i saw that it's not impossible to disassemble it but for sure it's not pretty and lots of things can go wrong.
For upgrading RAM on a 24" iMac, what's so hard about removing one screw?

Not so sure about that one... I support my sister and her MBP (Macbook Pro). A lot about all-in-one printers are the other functions like fax, scan, etc...

These -all- require a software suite to function properly, and often special drivers (TWAIN for scanning, etc...)

It isn't realistic for -any- OS to have all of these, or all the drivers for any peripherals for that matter.

Speaking of SSDs, the new Gen2 Intel SSDs don't have halogen in them (a green thing), so Apple should be adopting them as an option soon. They stayed away from the Gen1 Intel drives (even though they were by far the best) due to the halogen content.
