Some people are able to compartmentalize their lives, feelings and behavior. Jesse James is obviously one of them. I bet that if you asked him, he would tell you that he loves and always loved Sandra Bullock and, in his head, he'd believe that he was telling the truth. In his head, I bet that he puts her in the wife box while his many mistresses are in the sex/fun box. He's probably tell you (and mean it) that he loves Sandra but that he can and does have sex without love and that he was bored and lonely during her ultra-long absences due to her always filming movies away from home so he was just having a little "fun".

James is hardly the only person who leads a double life or many lives in parallel. The trick is somehow detecting those tendencies and not marrying someone like that.
