New Digi camera needed, any suggestions?

One of the top rated digitals is the Canon A1000IS; best features are 4x optical zoom/10 megapixel, uses SD cards [easy and cheap], AA batteries [same as previous benefit - I use rechargeables to save $$]. It's compact and light with good basic controls. It's got USB out to transfer files or just use a card reader.
Best prices are running from $110 - $129 ... It's also one of the top-rated compact digitals in Consumer Reports. Good basic controls and settings, an optical viewfinder + 2.5" LCD.
Now, let me give you a negative ... battery life is miserable compared to another Casio Exslim subcompact I have. But as I said, I use rechargeables and that's easy to handle by carrying an extra set or grabbing a couple at a discount store. When you're traveling there is no need to carry a charging cradle too.
It makes a good complement to my Canon XTi DSLR.

Correction, hes looking for a DSLR which is different from what I am looking for
The other thread had many links to web sites that provide comprehensive reviews of all digital cameras, not just DSLRs so there's plenty of valid information there as well.

I stand by my recommendation ... IMHO no need to spend <$200 for a super jazy PnS if that's not desired.

Panasonic Lumix is the best. Best Buy should carry a full line - read some reviews on cnet to figure out which model you need and you're good to go
