Denon, Rotel, Marantz are great receivers to start with

as far as speakers go, Vandersteen cannot be beaten for any amount of money
I've yet to hear those... but have heard great things about them...

Also, for receivers, high-end Onkyo is some of the best for the money - again, for starters...

If you have a budget, Klipsch Speakers, Klipsch Subwoofer, and Pioneer Receiver.
If you got cash to burn B&W speakers, B&W Subwoofer, Mcintosh Amp, and High End Pioneer Receiver.
Oh and please use high end cables i.e. Monster for your audio hook ups. Dont go cheap there!!!

haha see you like Pioneer, huh?

Just FYI 600 series B&W speakers are really quite affordable - and a huge bargain, if you consider the quality. I'd say, spend the extra couple of hundred bucks and get them instead of any Klipsch setup - you'll be amazed by the way they sound every time you turn them on. I've had mine for about 5 or 6 years now and I never stopped loving them. Not even once considered switching to anything else - though I have sampled many different speakers.

And if you want to drive higher end speakers, like B&W, you wanna get an amp that is more high-end. Without going into too much detail, I'd say you're between Marantz, high end Onkyos (though I don't like how they sound with B&W) and maybe some Denons. Rotel, of course is well worth it - even used.

To save money, don't hesitate to buy the speakers used too - if they were well taken care of (ask the seller some questions), they'll actually sound better out of the box than new. New ones will have to be broken in for some time to start sounding properly.

Pioneer has some great receivers for all price ranges.

My father has the 800 series and they are powered my a mcintosch amp. Its freakin amazing. But the price for those 800 series are nuts.
Whats the price on the 600 series??

The best amps on the market are mcintosch, but they are very expensive!!
