Damn, that sucks Scott, glad everyone was okay and it turned out to be toward the end so you got to enjoy most of the vacation.

That's a shame you had such bad luck on your vacation. I've never been on a cruise personally, and your story and similar stories are some of the reasons why. If I get stuck in a bad resort, I can just leave and check into another. Man, if you're on a ship and something happens like what you went through, you're hosed.

I'm glad you got thru the incident with nothing more than a story, some sweat, and memories of bad smells.

The last cruise ship I was on, the Star Princess had a large fire the month after our cruise. Based on first hand reports, that incident was well handled. I would certainly do Princess again.

Like I told you before, all jokes aside, I think their discounts are nice, but just feels like they owe you a lot more compensation - just based on the news stories I've seen.
I was a little too busy packing all of our bags, watching Victor and figuring out how to get the hell out of there to worry about shaving.

I thought that the 75% refund of the cruise fare and the 50% discount on a future cruise was fare. But I am seeking to be reimbursed for the plane tickets from San Juan to Miami ($1300 for 4 seats) because: (1) they did not put us on any of their charter flights; (2) the living conditions on the ship with unbearable; and (3) they told passengers that if they left the ship and went to a hotel in San Juan to wait for their flight, NCL would not reimburse them. My son has special needs and very limited patience which he cannot control and they refused to accomodate us in any manner.

I would still cruise again. The ship was really nice, the food was good as was the entertainment and I liked going to a different port every day.

Thanks Richard. It could have been much more. We were fortunate that the power failure occurred where it did -- only 100 miles from a major port and calm seas.

I guess the one thing I've learned about cruises so far is: you better be ready to pay for some extra plane tickets when embarking on a voyage

Anyway, all is well that ends well. I'm happy it was just a minor inconvenience in retrospect. BTW looked at some of those pics - some absolutely gorgeous views!

Tortola and Antigua were the best in terms of views.

You should have taken the Norwegian Gem, not the Dawn.

Was that your ship when you went NCL? It's newer than the Dawn and looks like it has nicer amenities.

The Dawn had the cruise itinerary and dates we wanted.

Maybe we'll cruise the Norwegian Epic when it debuts in 2010. That ship is going to be a giant (not as big as Royal Carribean's Oasis of the Seas) but still one of the biggest cruise ships in the world. But I want to do a Western Med cruise and the Epic is slated for serivce out of Miami to the Carribean.

Yes. It was the newest ship to the fleet when we went on it. It was nice, but my wife and I both decided we're not cruise people and opted to do something else this year, even though it would have been free again. Same trip, same route as yours. 10 days, same 5 islands.
