"ship wa quickly diverted"??? That is not what I've heard. Besides, you don't really have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out it was not that quickly if people were actually forced to spend an entire night sleeping on the deck for Chrissakes! Now the PR machine's gonna try to put a positive spin, downplay the severity of the incident leading to no investigation on the ship... and I don't know, maybe I am paranoid, but isn't that how all the disasters start? Because some bean counting bunch decides to just "make the whole thing blow over" and then, having spent considerable money on containing the situation in the media, they'll have no resources left to actually fix the problem with the ship... I hope I'm wrong.
There was a very severe incident. The power failure was catastrophic. Even the emergency power and the emergency lighting failed for many hours. Sadly, that was not reported in the media.
The ship was not "quickly diverted" IMHO. It was divered to San Juan about 12 hours after the start of the incident. And it took about 12 more hours to limp into San Juan at 6 knots per hour.
Some of the crew members told me that they feared that NCL would merely do a quick "patch" repair instead of a real, comprehensive repair and that the incident would happen again. I sure hope not for the sake of future passengers.
Other than its mechanical issues, the ship is really nice.

I would cruise again, but I am staying the hell off the Dawn.
That ship has probably cost them a lot of money.

Like I told you before, all jokes aside, I think their discounts are nice, but just feels like they owe you a lot more compensation - just based on the news stories I've seen.

Damn Scott, that sounds scary. Glad it all worked out (to some degree) for you guys though.
Sounds like quite the ordeal.

But I still need to sneak in a NCL cruise given that the 50 percent discount for a future NCL cruise only applies to cruises in 2010.

Thanks for the detailed personal report out. It sounds like an experience you'll be glad to forget and a story you will be telling for a long time.
I've enjoyed cruising a lot and never faced what you did - HOPE I never do!
You'll have to get back on that horse again ... as soon as your work schedule permits.

It did. But it could have been so much worse. We were so lucky that we were in the open ocean and not close to land when the engines stopped.
The one thing that got difficult was the after being exposed to the 100 degree heat for a day, my Victor, who has special needs and is now over 5 feet 3 inches, became extremely upset and very difficult to control. That's when I got us the hell off the ship.
