Hope Heidfeld does a better job during the GP than in front of BMW employees at the factory in Munich yesterday. How embarassing...

A little bit about the new aero parts for this weekend's race from Willi Rampf of BMW: "We have quite a number of small modifications on the aerodynamic side, mainly on the bodywork. The most obvious parts are engine cover ? basically a different fin ? and rear wing mounted on a so-called centre strut." At least that is what they want to talk about. They certainly wouldn't want to talk about anything less obvious than a rear wing and engine cover which everyone will notice right away. Willie went on to say, "In principal we keep the same: bringing new components for each race and up to now we have been able to do so and we still want to do it. We don?t think that waiting for a huge update to be ready and developed is the right thing for us. That?s our opinion. We believe more in optimising the car as it is because the car still has potential for further development."

It would be nice if they did a hot lap or two on Friday to give us more to talk about, but they only work on the race setup and change testing. Therefore, today's testing doesn't really tell us much about Sunday. Tomorrow should be a different story.

Ok the field is set,...Top 3 are;

Pole Kimi R. 1:21.813
2) Fernando A. 1:21.904
3) Felipe M. 1:22.058

Kubica (4th) must get to the lead into the 1st corner or the Ferraris will run away with this race. Alonso is on fumes I think and won't be in the running for a win but a podium could be in the cards.

Yeah Alonso delivered a BIG surprise almost clinching on the pole (position ). I like his commitment, and on the other side i don't like how Heidfeld drove. It's a pitty and i suspect if he doesn't improve his performance dramatically he will not be so lucky from 2009.

Piquet qualified high as well. The Renaults maybe light or they may have an improved car, but everytime Steve Matchett talked about the Renaults, he mentioned they may be running a J damper or inertia damper. They are intended to compensate for the negative effects of rotational mass. If this is true, it would explain why the Renaults are now competitive when they were far from it before this weekend.

As for Heidfeld, he doesn't qualify well, but general runs a better race than Kubica. Since his time was so much slower, I bet he is carrying considerably more fuel than Kubica.

Unless they break or Massa makes a mistake, the Ferraris are a lock for 1 & 2. They are far superior this week. If you saw the practise and the qualifying, everyone but the Ferraris were sawing the steering wheel back and forth on most of the corners. Ferrari look so smooth, have a higher top speed and are probably able to carry more down force. Therefore, BMW needs to stay in front of the McLarens and see if the Renaults return to form to make the podium.
