He's the guy who ran BAR and Pro-Drive, he temporarily ran Benetton, and is the current chairman of Aston Martin. Car guy through and through.

Sounds like a cool dude. Shame Pro-Drive never released that super high tech diff they made that was shown on Top Gear once. It single-handedly dropped 3 seconds a lap from the car they had it installed on.

Thanks for all the info guys... and pictures too Very interesting times and it looks as though it is going into a new era, with some of the long term "influencers" leaving and new teams / set-ups coming next year.

I can't get over that Nelson incident. I know these cars are very safe, but you're talking about a driver being manipulated into a situation where he's risking his life. That's just mind blowing; asking someone to risk their life so another driver can win a race. In my mind it's only a fine line to being criminal, not just against some sporting rules. Its appalling and sickening. I hope that it has serious consequences for those involved to avoid others being put in situations like that in the future. Sorry for the rant guys, but this is the kind of thing that really winds me up.

Yep, and track debris from this stunt could have created risks for other drivers and the marshals sent in to help with the cleanup too. The recent incident with Massa getting hit by that spring that fell off Barichello's car showed the damage that even a relatively small piece of debris can potentially cause.

More intrigue: the FIA knew LAST YEAR about Piquet Jr's team ordered crash. Piquet Sr told Charlie Whiting everything after the Brazilian Grand Prix...

Oh no.

Sure makes ya think that such things aren't as rare as we'd like to think they are.

Apparently, the FIA did not want to make any noise about this because they (whoever "they" are) feared that there wouldn't be any evidence to support Piquet Sr's claims, i.e., they waited until Piquet Jr admitted to it in August.

There is more.

According to Piquet Sr, Piquet Jr came forward with information about this in order to get out of the 15 YEAR managerial contract he signed with Briatore. Briatore gets 20% of Piquet Jr's earnings (team and sponsorship deals).

What kind of a twat signs a 15 year contract with Briatore to be his manager? WTF?!

Today, I read an interview with Edmund Irvine, where he basically said that most people would not believe the types of underhanded, dirty tricks that teams have gone to in the past in order to win. In Irvine's opinion, this Renault fiasco is on the dirtier side of the dirty tricks game in Formula 1, whereas the McLaren-Stepany Gate was normal.

And Briatore claims that he quit to "save" Renault... I am going to guess that he is not done in Formula 1 either. Hell, he is Alonso, Kovalainen and Grosjean's manager, and owns GP2 with Ecclestone (along with QPR football team).

Monday will be interesting!
