Well that IS more than your policemen carry!!
Haha!! This is true. However, we do now have Armed Police Division. Have done for some time. Just not all 5 0 carry them. To be honest, the crime over here isn't as severe as over in the States. Not meant in a rude way, but it's inevitable with your country being so much bigger than ours etc etc...

Oh you guys are still just upset we broke free from you! I have family back there (West End of London) and it is an entirely different place, it is safer there!

I'll be taking ownership of my first handgun today. No real motivation for the purchase, nothing political or in response to anything. I simply happened to see a very good price on a firearm I have always wanted.

I will post some pics of mine tonight hopefully.

Very suprising you are waiting this long. I have owned a pistol since I was 18. If nothing else for protection when out with the fam and at home. Of course God willing I have time to get to it, if not, time for a little hand to hand and luck!

Don't know my firearms too well. What brand is that?

I'm also thinking of picking up my first gun myself; either a Sig P226 or P239.
UUronL - HK's are very reliable guns. I've always wanted to own one of their semi-auto rifles. Very expensive!

ECF - P239 is very versatile. The .40 cal bbl can be switched out with the .357 bbl - the clips must also be changed of course. I love mine!

Very nice choice! I used to carry P7s. Your model is known as the P7 in Germany, but in the states is known as the P7 PSP. It differs slightly from the more common P7M8. The PSP has the European style magazine release on the heel of the grip and is a little more compact than the P7M8. Of the P7s (P7 PSP, P7M8, P7M13 and the giant P7M10), the P7 PSP is my favorite. I have owned P7 PSPs, P7M8s and P7M13s. The P7M13 has a double-stack 13 round magazine and is much heavier.

The only downside to the P7 series is that they are all steel and fairly heavy for their size. But if you are only going to use it to sport shoot and not carry, that shouldn't be a problem.

For target shooting, the one drawback of the P7PSP from the P7M8 is that the P7 PSP does not have the plastic heatshield in the trigger guard. That steel gets hot real fast on the PSP.

Overall, you have made a fine choice for a first firearm! The only reason I gave up my P7s was because the manual of arms was so much different than my Sig P228 (M11) duty weapon. Make sure you get the scraper in to clean out the gas chamber under the fixed barrel.

Shoot straight and enjoy that P7. That is the German firearm equivalent to our BMWs!

Nice choice, Ron. I've seen cops carrying variations of these in Mexico, Norway, and Singapore. I probably only help propagate the world's image of Americanos as gun crazy when I start asking questions of random law enforcement officials about the pros and cons of their firearms when I'm traveling.

There's quite a difference between these 2, Tony. You won't like the size of the P226 unless you are just range shooting. It's a full-size SIG. The P239 is very small, almost like a mini-glock 26. I say meet in the middle and get my favorite.....SIG P229 .40 S&W. I have 2 of them...and 2 P228's....love 'em!

I know, I believe the 239 is smaller and fits my hand better but it also has about a .5" shorter barrel. I forgot to note it but I think I shot the P226 at a different range and from about 20ft out, my first five shots were in the black. I'll definitely make a few more trips to the range before I decide on which model.

I also really liked the Beretta 92FSC.
