I'll be taking ownership of my first handgun today. No real motivation for the purchase, nothing political or in response to anything. I simply happened to see a very good price on a firearm I have always wanted.

It's one of these...

(image is not of my firearm)

I will post some pics of mine tonight hopefully.

Don't know my firearms too well. What brand is that?

I'm also thinking of picking up my first gun myself; either a Sig P226 or P239.

Very nice. Soon you will become curious and want more guns. Trust me haha. The Springfield XD series is really nice.

It is a HK P7 (German Police Surplus). It isn't well-known outside of gun circles since it was very expensive and it is no longer made. Hans Gruber's gun in the first Die Hard movie was a nickle plated P7.

This is a great video that talks about these firearms...

Thanks! I shoot a lot, but with other peoples' firearms. I love the XD, a friend of mine has the XD 45 ACP. Great gun.

Among others, I own the XD 9mm, 40, and 45. I think the 40 is perfect balance because it has low recoil, good capacity, and the 40 is a good sized bullet. Do you target shoot or train for personal defense?

Just target shoot. I do some sporting clay shooting as well, but that's quite different.
