Problem is that even when you park far away from everyone else, theres usually some idiot who decides to park their 100 year old bomb next to your car

Yep! I agree.

It happend to me also,on this car, found some scratches in the back bumper. Scratches are to the plastic and nothing can be done except repainting. So lucky you got to face the "lady" (btw that's a cow). I never got to face him/her. Usually it's a her. I don't know how would i react if i would have seen the hit.

Although anything is possible, I can say that after cautiously parking for many, many years, that's happened only a handful of times. Certainly the odds of damage are reduced if you avoid tight squeezes like the one in the original photo...

Jay, that is one of the maddest things I have ever seen.

Unfortunately parking spaces that size are all too common in the UK.

We're even getting a horrid little Peugeot with sliding doors in Europe because of this very problem. Our US cousins can Google the Peugeot 1007 for the hideous details.

Sounds like you did amazingly well to keep your cool.

Jeez I wish they had a series like that in the US... closest was the world's scariest police chase series.

Yeah I like to watch those police chase too, can't believe there are so many idiots out there, and I've been told that there are service in the US where they would notified you through text message if a chase is on TV. Haha... lots of joyriders in la la land.
