I never wanted to go to college, or ever had the desire. I always had a entrepreneurial mindset and would do my own thing. I'm doing better than some people with degrees and I'm still young, though I want to eventually have my own business or gig without working for someone else. I never thought I wanted to go to school just to get a certificate which I could "show" to someone to help get a job. But thats just me

HAHAHAHA, if my kids told me they were not interested in higher education I'd probably at least consider the same

College education != instant success. It all depends on what you really want to do. Most of the people I work with have college educations and the job they do has NOTHING to do with the degree they have(like a chemical engineering major I work with), and I don't really think it mattered much when they got hired either.

Agreed, but the idea that college has little or no value is ridiculous. Even if you are wanting to be "your own boss", a business degree would be immensely helpful. Granted, there are bullsh** degrees like Liberal Arts, Philosophy, Sociology and crap like that, it would be interesting to see the breakdown of successful people by major

I didn't say it was no value, its just not for everyone. Most schools preach that you have to go to college or you won't be successful, I just don't buy into that personally.

A college degree opens doors for those that have it.

Where I work the only door that will open for someone without a degree or a professional cert is the Janitor's closet.

I agree. Can you imagine if 100% of the population went to college? I don't know about you, but I wouldn't like wading through all the trash that nobody would pick up, I wouldn't like to have to poop outside in an outhouse because nobody wants to maintain the sewer system. I probably wouldn't like to be locked in my house for weeks because nobody would plow the snow and, and on, and on.

What I was trying to say is, that for many people college is just not an option, and thank God for that. Nothing wrong with learning a trade. I bet my plumber makes more money than most college graduates......
