Don't get me wrong. On many occasions I've considered exchanging my Canon gear for what you have in the picture, the D300. It's a great kit!
! You've got yourself a fabulous set-up!

Almost impossible to switch brands once you start collecting lenses and other gear. Many years ago when I stood at the crossroads I went Nikon. No question Canon makes some sexy lenses and great cameras.....just thought this thread needed an injection of Nikon. Now back to those "L" lenses.......

Which 70-200 are you looking at? The new 70-200 f4 IS has some great reviews. The new IS gives you 4 more stops, which is better than the IS on the f2.8. I have the 70-200 f2.8 (non-IS), after selling off an f4 because I needed the extra speed for lowlight. Any of the Canon 70-200's are amazing lenses with the best bokeh in the industry.

One area where Cannon still leads is high ISO sharpness. The newest (D3/D300/D700, etc) are better but probably only to the level the first 5D was at.
$2700 for the new 5D will force Nikon to quickly drop the price of the D700. Competition is good.

Funny... I bought my 5D and some glass 2 years ago after being a longtime Nikon shooter. I was going to sell the Nikon stuff, but I never did. So now I have both.
There are people who do keep and shoot both, but it's not always incredibly smart or cheap to do so.Right now, Nikon has a better wide zoom for FF than Canon. Canon has better midrange zoom for FF. Tele primes and zooms are a toss-up. The 200mm f2 Nikon has is actually as good as the Canon L mentioned, but a lot cheaper.
I took plenty of good pictures with my D70, but my 5D is the best!
