Keeping my 5D, but this camera looks really amazing. Very nice step in the right direction.

Something else that I have to get.... I wish it had faster continuous shooting for action/sports photography. If I didn't have a collection of Canon 'L' lenses, I'd probably go for a Nikon D700.

My question is, do we really need 21mp? I assume a full frame Canon sensor won't have issues of cheaper cameras with ever shrinking pixels but are the demands on the memory cards, computers to process, and storage for 1000s of 21mp pictures worth the difference in sharpness over, say a 12mp or14mp image? Would the typical consumer lens even be able to resolve to that level?

+1 on wishing for faster fps. I'm a Nikon user but I've been spoiled by 5fps for 3 years. That plus the fast response of the D200 at races, etc is fantastic.

I upgraded my digital camera every year or two but not since the D200. Even though the D300/D700, and even the D90 may surpass it, the bottom line difference in image quality, etc is minimal compared to the cost of the new model (plus the fact that the older cameras aren't worth that much on the used market).

To answer your first question:
For photographers seeking the flexibility and creative possibilities of shooting RAW format images, without the large file size, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera offers two more manageable file size options with sRAW1 and sRAW2 recording formats. At the sRAW1 setting, resolution is 10.0-megapixels with a file size that is approximately 25 percent smaller than a standard 21.1-megapixel RAW image. With the sRAW2 setting, resolution is 5.2 megapixels at less than half the file size of a standard RAW image, retaining all of the flexibility and creative possibilities associated with full-size, conventional RAW images. Wedding and portrait photographers, in particular, will appreciate the options of variable resolution and file size which allow them to fine-tune the 5D Mark II's operation for their specific needs.

To answer your second:
Most people shooting on a full-frame sensor will most likely have nice glass to compliment and not be shooting on consumer lenses.

Like UUronL, I will probably be keeping my 5D. But the HD video feature on the Mark II intrigues me since I'm a videographer by trade. Not to mention the high-res 3" LCD.

Right. Gapless microlens design in the 50D and 5D Mk II means that you can capture more photons than older designs. Also, combining pixels (binning) in sRAW gives you more full-well capture ability - very similar to less-dense sensors. Again, due to no gaps, you're not giving anything up by asking several pixels to act like one larger one. sRAW1 and sRAW2 do more than shrink file size, there is an increase in quality. Just an interesting factoid, the very first Nikon DSLR, the D1 binned pixels... but this was never publicly disclosed until a couple of years ago. It had a 10Mpxl sensor, but was publicly stated to be a 2.74Mpxl sensor.

Anyway, my 5D does just fine...

I took these @ H on the 5D, which is a true ISO 4000.

Very tempting, but the 5D series is known for portraits and I need the 6.5FPS in my 40D, not to mention the spot-on focusing. Still...it's tempting.

the bigger mp is better for me cos there is a bigger mp to crop the photo and after croping you still get a good big mp for big print outs.
I dont have big zoom lens yet but will be getting 70-200.
I find that my 350D is too small mp after croping some photos to print out.
this 5Dmk2 is very cheep compare to 5Dmk1 when it was new. half the price.

Yeah I know. I can't believe the introductory price for the body is only $2700. That's less than what I paid for my 5D new a year ago and after a $400 rebate. These bad boys are gonna fly off the shelf this holiday season.
