We have the NASA 500 every morning and have to pass through a gate where the guard must "touch" your badge. Everybody jockies for the left lane as it ends up in two gates while right is only one gate. They start getting in the left lane 12 miles out at 55 and under... grrrr

That's another thing we get teached in driving school here in Germany.
It's called the "Zipper-System".
When one lane ends for some (whatever) reason the cars in the open lane have to let one car from the closed lane in right in front. This has to be done where the lane ends, not earlier. When everybody follows this rule the traffic doesn't stop and it it works like a zipper.

Yep, nothing to mess up traffic flow than those who try to gouge in before their turn. Bartsards, that's wot they are, Barstards.

I don't want to promote a "chain letter" type campaign, but if each of us start a "Keep out of the LEFT LANE" thread at the forums we know/participate, perhaps it will get the message out.

Additionally, people need to vary their speeds on highways or at least avoid "block-in situations" - in other words, don't drive the speed or stay in the same position as other drivers around you. Leave some room (if and when possible) between your car and others.

Lastly, PAY ATTENTION. Most of the traffic issues can be avoided if drivers PAY ATTENTION and don't create "blockages" to faster moving traffic.

I've seen situations where cops are behind people's tail on the left lane, and the DAMN IDIOT still doesn't move over even when there is opportunity. Someone, please explain to me what's going on in that driver's head. Sometimes, I wish was in an 18 wheeler and just run them off the road because that's where they belong.

We had something very funny happening over here in Germany.
A police car (regular marked police car) was on the Autobahn's left lane with the lights and the sound on, on their way to an accident.
A biker approached them from behind, closed in to an unsafe distance (less than 2 metres!!!) and gave them handsignals to move out of the way!

The dude really had balls, but now has no license for quite some time.

What I've learned since I work on a towtruck out there on the German Autobahn is: It's a war!
It's unbelievable, dangerous and sometimes quite funny.
It's amazing that there are not more people killed on our roads, thanks to the good driving education.
