Hey Phill , thanks again for all the great info and entertainment, was there a BM song that had the lyric line " don't get your dreadies in a knot " ? I say no, my friend says yes. Sounds way too trite for MR.M ??
Cheers
Westcoast you are quite correct, there is no such line in any Bob Marley song. It is simply not an expression he, or any Jamaican would likley have used even in conversation, and definitely not in a song.

While we are on the subject, it might be a good time to talk about Natty Dread, the title song of the album Bob Marley Music School-200px_bobmarley_26thewailersnattydread.jpgreleased in 1974, and is the first release of the new band now called 'Bob Marley and the Wailers'. Original Wailers Peter Tosh & Bunny Livingston had departed, and this album was the first to feature the sweet background vocals of the I-Threes, Rita Marley (Bob's Wife), Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt.
The song Natty Dread was a celebration of what Bob saw as the rising influence of the Rastafari movement, and its growing appeal to Jamaica's poor and disenfranchised youth. So in the song, Bob is saying to fellow Rastas (Natty Dreads), we are everywhere, "1st street, 2nd street......21 thousand miles away from home...."etc. and now "......we'r gonna have things our way....."

From the Smithsonian's 'Dread History': Nyabinghi (Ni-uh-bin-gee) This term has a series of overlapping meanings within the contemporary Rastafari Movement. It refers variously to the island-wide religious gatherings like this one of Rasta brethren and sistren at which communicants "praise Jah" and "chant down Babylon," to the three-part drum ensemble on which chants are composed, to the African-derived dance-drumming style performed at these events, and to the corpus of chants themselves. It also refers to the most orthodox organization within the broader Rasta movement variously known as the House of Nyabinghi or the Theocratic Government of Emperor Haile Selassie I. The term Nyabinghi entered the movement in late 1935 during the Italian Invasion of Ethiopia and is actually derived from an African secret society which operated in the Congo and Ruwanda during the last quarter of the 19th century.

Jump Nyabinghi from the Confrontation album I mentioned in post #21. Interestingly, Bob does not perform this song in the typical nyabinghi style (ocustic, mostly repeative 3 drums ensemble) like Soul Rebel Post #27 or Babylon System Post #29.

Edit: I have decided to add this version of Rastaman Chant from the 1973 Burning album to this post because it is, I think, the must authentic 'Nyabinghi style' song in Bob's repitorie. (sp)

This one is pretty simple, no long winded analysis needed here, just watch the Bob, the I-threes and the band and soon you too will know how to
Enjoy

Legend has it that Bob & Peter Tosh would sit outside the back steps of Bob's small house and prepare their....erm.... splifs by getting rid of the seeds with a small pocket knife. Apparently, there where
who knew the schedule of this activity and would come to eat the seeds, singing happily in the process, and was the inspiration for this song. It was released years later in 1977 on the Exodus album, ( Post #9 ) is it true? ....I have no idea, but why should facts get in the way of a good story.

40 years of listening to Bob Marley & I have never heard this version of
which, by the sound of the arrangement, seems to pre-date
from the 1978 Kaya album post #1. It is one of Bob's many love songs, most of which were written to & about the many women in his life, beyond that I have no details about this song.
