And that is exactly what they did. Yet a couple of posters here seem to believe otherwise.

So who made the biggest contribution? And as a percentage of the respective populations at the time, the British lost much more than the USA. Both, of course, pale into insignificance compared to more than 5 million Polish citizens - over three million of them civilians - who gave their lives. The French lost more than the Brits and the USA.

3 million Polish civillians didn't GIVE their lives... they were VICTIMS/MURDERED! Talk about people needing history lessons
Might of been helpful if the masses were armed... but they weren't. According to SWAJAMES, it is best to let your government protect you... how did that work out for the Polish you just mentioned above... ![Wassat](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/wassat.gif)

Based on your earlier post, you actually had the temerity to describe these self same people as "spineless".
I think my euphemism was much appropriate than yours.

Were the Polish NEUTRAL during the war? I don't think so. The SPINELESS I referred to, were the European countries that remained neutral throughout the war. And for the most part, remained so ever since . Your euphemism was ridiculous and I have the temerity to let you know that you are an embarrassment to liberty. I guess that's why you live in the socialist state of Cali. You need your hand held. You like your government to tell you what food to eat, what oil to cook with...

You'll find the real turn of events in WWII, and the massive contribution made by many European countries, was somewhat different than the Hollywood version you seem to be describing. For example, more British troops and civilians gave their lives than Americans to preserve the freedom we all now enjoy. So who made the biggest contribution? And as a percentage of the respective populations at the time, the British lost much more than the USA. Both, of course, pale into insignificance compared to more than 5 million Polish citizens - over three million of them civilians - who gave their lives. The French lost more than the Brits and the USA. Others lost many, many more. Many of these countries, of course, essentially fought alone while the US effectively watched from the sidelines until 1941. The real tragedy is that what you describe as "got their asses kicked" actually translates to millions of Europeans giving their lives.
Also, to put that "getting their asses kicked" comment into context, WW II came relatively quickly after WW I when nearly ten British citizens died for each American casualty. A not dissimilar picture could be found in many other European countries. So they were all a little lighter on numbers that they otherwise might have been in 1939![Wink](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/wink.gif)

The majority of people that died in WWII were civilians. So how does a civilian give their live for their country when it is taken?
Of course the number of deaths were alot higher for European countries than America. There were bomb raids weekly.
And on your past comment of stepping up to the plate, maybe they should have stopped Hitler before he got all of Germany behind him.
They knew of Hitler and his following and pretty much stood by and watched. Yes so did America, but it didnt happen in our backyard.
Im stating that if we did nothing the World would be alot different.
So maybe you should do some reading yourself, before you start calling people out

I won't comment on gun laws here as i'm from Europe and i think the right to own guns is just B.S.
But, as far as i can see, Obama is the best thing that happened to America in a LONG time. Not only America, the whole world will benefit from this.
The whole of Europe was suprised that Bush was elected for the second time. That guy needed help to scratch his own ass...
Then military, WHY should more than 3% of the "fit" population serve in the military? Aren't there enough soldiers already?
I mean, the entire Iraqi war is B.S. and based on nothing.
Granted, Obama couldn't have gotten a worse time to be elected president. Everything is focused on the economy now.
