You should have looked into the 3D from Sony more, it looks like they use the active-shutter glasses fool.

Apple fans: I'll buy almost anything if it's shiny and made by Apple and To ensure that its users receive the constant public attention they crave, the iPad will emit the phrase "Hey, does that guy have an iPad?" every eight minutes

i was watching one at the sony store. while it looks cool (they had a soccer match playing), the fact that you need to wear those glasses is annoying....and at $125 a pop, no thanks.

BTW, what exactly is "3D" about the tv's? they still show that ghosty image without the glasses, so the TV's themselves arent 3D. its like they broadcast part of the grammys this year in 3D, you could see the 3D on your regular tv if you had the glasses. i would think u can see the world cup and espn 3D channels on your regular tv set if you just had a pair of those glasses. so why exactly do you need a specific 3D tv??? marketing hype?

There are two main methods of 3D, but both will involve you seeing the "ghosty" image if you're viewing without glasses. One method shows you both left and right images together and the glasses you wear are simply different polarized lenses, that's the simplest. The other method involves the TV showing alternate frames for left and right eye in sequence (left, right, left, right etc). The glasses are synchronized to that sequence and shut the alternate eye completely so that the left eye only sees the images intended for the left eye, and the right eye only sees the ones targeted to the right eye. These glasses need batteries and a wireless sync signal. These are the ones I'm personally concerned about using. Who knows what that might do to your eyes and brain. I'm not in a hurry to use them, maybe once a month perhaps. I preferred the simple polarized ones they gave out at Avatar.

Well, assuming the price isn't prohibitive (and other than the glasses it doesn't seem there is much of a premium for the hardware) there's no reason not to spring for a 3D set. As I said before, the key will be content. If there's enough good content the format will take off (and that includes broadcast TV, which is indeed coming this year). My own take is that this will take off, ultimately it's probable that most new TV's will come as 3D ready, much like it's close to impossible to buy a TV today that isn't HD ready.
