Well here it is 1:27 pm and I have just received my second Sprint Booster, this one for my X5....I'll leave my thoughts after I've installed it!
Hey flyingpuck, did both of yours have the bright red or kind of a brownish wire, harness, casing (not that it matters, just curious)?

BTW, bigbadbull you might want to check that your not actually spinning the clutch at 70-mph. Not sure if my M5 would spin the tires at 70-mph, but maybe I am wrong they might slip a bit depending on surface.

The following is long winded for those that don't care you can skim the bold to get my point and move on or just move on...

Keep in mind all that is going on is that you are pressing further on the pedal and faster as a result of this mod. You are not gaining any power. Nonetheless, it feels as if you gained +50whp until you get into the dead zone of the pedal. You all might want to keep in mind that you are basically driving the car harder.

One issue I am noting is that with the SMG while driving in mode S3 feels as if the clutch is slipping more than I would like from a start only (i.e. the SMG is trying to shift smooth while you are applying a lot of throttle and the only way to do that would be to slip the clutch a bit). The simple solution seems to be to use a higher driving mode (which is what I do anyways S5 or S6) or just get used to barely pressing on the throttle. At first galnce, I would recommend staying out of anything lower than D3/S3 with this mod. On the other hand the shifts between gears are much faster in all modes (fair trade off, IMHO).

Bottom line is that you will drive your car harder and faster as a result of this mod and it will be much easier to do so which has it's positives and negatives. IMHO, I like the mod for every day driving and I think most will. I like the fact that all of us here will not be getting smoked at lights by minivans when we are not paying attention or trying to baby the car. This will keep the respect level where it should be for us BMW drivers or is that the stereotypical BMW driver already

One last note: there is something else I noticed which kind of feels like a hesitation, but I think that is just the lack of low end torque at too low of RPM in combination with applying a lot of throttle while feeling like I am not (if that even makes any sense). In other words I think the mod is making me feel like I don't need to downshift to be at peak torque or need to downshift as much in general. I thnk this is just a side effect of feeling like I have more torque (another fair trade off, but something to be mindful of and not abuse). I think not using sport mode as much might help keep me in check a bit.

Alright to sum up my thoughts:

Be careful of overworking the clutch and engine due to the effect of hammering the throttle at too low of RPM (i.e. bogging down the car).

I think that is all I am trying to say I'll report back if there is anything of importance that I discover, but I think this should about sum it up.

Well, to be truthful, they both had a reddish brown (or is it a brownish red??) wire. I suspect the "red" wires you saw in other pictures are really just variations in camera/monitors etc. But after installing my second SB this evening, I realize it ends up being fairly invisible anyway.

So I did in fact install the second SB in my X5, and despite all the same parts, it was much much harder than the install in my E60 was! (further proof that E60s rule!). Same effect though, much more fun driving the X5 now!

what was harder?
The actual reinstall of the gas pedal was made more difficult by the space available behind it. It was hard to re-engage the pedal housing onto the metal tab. So I ended up cutting a slit in the carpeting behind the pedal, tucked all the wires etc. into it and closed it up. Now it looks and works great!

picked up the SB from the post office prior to work.. took a minute to remove that cap thing over the bolt that holds down the pedal. no error lights. very cool! my drive to work was only 4 miles.. for once i wish the commute was longer

thanks!!!

ok, im surprised no one has asked this yet (or i may have missed a post, which im pretty sure i havent)...anyway..

with the SB, how big is the difference between driving in D and DS modes. IMO, without the SB, the DS mode is like 3 times more responsive than regualar mode. Does it feel even more responsive with the SB?? and what mode do you guys usually drive on with the SB?
