thanks for answering. Now my problem is that the car is in the stealers and I can't confirm if i have the fiber optic cable, until I get it back in a couple of days-- airbag recall crap. I agree stripping or tapping wires are not my cup of tea as well.

well not really. You can just tap some power wires as oppose to stripping.

I just came from the stealers to check if they can do the retrofit program update, and seems like they said I would be lucky if it will only take an hour. They may take two or more 
depending on how old my software is. In that case I can not shell out atleast 340 for that. I'm out guys. Unless someone here in norcal can steer towards a reasonable approach including a proven dealer who can activate the ipod retrofit kit for less. Thanks
