Yes the angel eyes on halogens can be coded to be DRLs. They are not as bright as Xenons, but it can be done. Check out the coding forums such as bimmer fest for details

Hey guys..
reading the threat about day time running lights and having angel eyes on. I have an 05 530i.. and usually turn light switch once to the left for the angel eyes to appear while i drive. Is there a programming to have the angel eyes turn on automatically and as i press to open door locks too like welcome lights? without me having to press any switches? Is this a coding option?
PS. I'm new at all this and just bought the car few months ago.
