Stuck throttle/
Info update!
Been to the dealer today.
BMW responded quickly with a battery of logical questions; which shoes did I wear, obstacles on the floor, aftermarket heaters etc...
They also asked me to describe the occurrence in my own words. Luckily, I had filmed the tachometer and the dash with my iPhone the last time it happened.
Orders from BMW are: Replace the accelerator module and re-program the car. The old module will be sent back to BMW for examination.
More to come...

I don't want to jump to any conclusions.
As I recall, the scenario with the "other brand" was that the car could accelerate by itself, causing the car to suddenly move off, which could be catastrophical. Which is not the case for me.

i wish cars weren't so electronic. bmw's have electronic gas pedal, shifter, and ignition start. i'd like to have some kind of manual way to kill the car in case something like an out of control engine were to occur.

On two separate occasions during the last week I experienced situations with a "stuck throttle" on my diesel. The car kept its speed on the motorway (around 100km/h - 60 mph) with the foot away from the gas pedal.
Just to check, I put the gearbox in neutral and the engine fairly quickly revved up to 3500 rpm.

Please send me a pm when you get this mistery sovled.
