Busywork. It's mind-boggling that owners want to disregard the manufacturer's break-in instructions, but think that the recommended maintenance some how fall short of what the car needs. I don't understand how anyone even remotely worried about the efficacy of lubrication could open up the throttle on a brand-new engine.

Busywork. It's mind-boggling that owners want to disregard the manufacturer's break-in instructions, but think that the recommended maintenance some how fall short of what the car needs. I don't understand how anyone even remotely worried about the efficacy of lubrication could open up the throttle on a brand-new engine.
Just a few years ago, prior to the free maintenance program, BMW recommended changing the oil between 5-7500 miles. BMW is now paying for the service and suddenly the same components don't need service for 15,000 miles or longer? Sounds like cost reduction and marketing to me.
