Nice! The Heineken is definitely necessary for oil changes (tends to be boring). :)

Oil change is needed that early?

maybe he decided to do it a bit earlier than the suggested 15K by BMW and that's why the owner DIY'd it....some owners still choose to change their oil every 3-5K miles...

Busywork. It's mind-boggling that owners want to disregard the manufacturer's break-in instructions, but think that the recommended maintenance some how fall short of what the car needs. I don't understand how anyone even remotely worried about the efficacy of lubrication could open up the throttle on a brand-new engine.

To each his own. You must lease your cars or trade them in every couple of years. Nobody who plans on keeping the car longer then the warranty period would consider following the recommended 15k oil change interval, or believes the "lifetime" fluid nonsense. I think that in the BMW dictionary the word "lifetime" is defined as being equal to the "warranty period."

Just a few years ago, prior to the free maintenance program, BMW recommended changing the oil between 5-7500 miles. BMW is now paying for the service and suddenly the same components don't need service for 15,000 miles or longer? Sounds like cost reduction and marketing to me.

It's not like it hurts the engine to change more often than recommended (only his wallet, which is his choice). And just because BMW recommends it, doesn't mean it's the best schedule for everyone. Maybe BMW estimates that the average BMW is driven 100k miles but this guy plans to drive 200k miles in this car's life.
