Update - first and foremost i've found a place that sells the solonoids seperately

Secondly, my specialist had my car today and cleared the fault which was showing the compressor issue. Then he did a full diagnostic on it, raised it to the top then lowered it fully.... all working perfectly.... I'm wondering whether to have a compressor sat here just incase, or ride my luck

Does anyone happen to know the size of the compression pipe that goes from the compressor to the solonoids?

Then it raised the suspension like crazy, way above the normal height. Can this be a failure from the self-levelling sensors?
I found the problem awhile ago but i forgot to post it. It was the connectors of the self-levelling that was full of moisture and water and therefore was given extremely high readings and making the solenoids to be always open to release the "extra" air. To solve the problem it was just needed to clean the connectors and apply a electric protector spray to prevent future issues.

Thanks Tiago... I'm going to give that a go before buying a new comp and solonoid.

I'm ideally wanting to give everything a clean, maybe change the rigid piping, also check for the bent control arm described in the BM guide?

Wonder how serviceable the actual solonoid is....you can buy a replacement off the bay for £160 now, but if it turns out to be the comp, then your looking at another £380... or £440 for the lot - the chap will accept less though for each of these items...

I'm posting this on my thread (as i didnt want to clog this one up) and also this one - as it is something i think that will save someone some time, and hasn't previously been covered

Update : I had the back wheels off today to have a peek at the electical connections to the level sensors and to check for any damage - nothing at all. Upon lowering the car, it raised to the correct level straight away, the comp made a slightly louder noise to do it, but so far no warnings on the dash..... my thinking is that if the left hand side lifts ok (furthest from the comp) and the right hand side stops at a certain height and doesn't drop overnight, then it has to be the solonoids that are at fault?

Oh heres a few pics, i had a look at the comp filter to see if it was blocked, it wasn't and it isnt really serviceable tbf... blew throught it with no probs at all though so reinstalled. I'd say its a waste of time anyone else checking theirs, its mounted quite well out of the reach of most dirt

Hi fellas,
Been a member for a while and thanks to have very few problems and not much to offer in the way of input I don't think I've posted before.

That all changed this week.
I think I have fallen foul of the dreaded suspension compressor pump failure curse. My 54 plate 525d has flagged up the the level control system failure a few times this week and on saturday my wife came back home with the car looking like something off of Pimp my Ride.
I knew about the chaffed intake pipe issue and had planed to take a look this weekend but this has kinda forced my hand.
I've got the pump off and had it running on the bench but it's struggling to put out 10psi so I'm resigned to buying a new pump but my question is why does the back hit the deck surely the one way valves should stop all the air escaping, I'm hoping that someone with an understanding of the system can explain how it works and perhaps give another reason for the suspension failing so abruptly.

To recap both sides failed at once in the space od 30mins, the pump runs but is very noisy, it appears to puff out of the intake and the output is very week. The system appears to retain the pressure that in created as when I undo the red and blue pipes into the distribution valve hissing can be heard from both sides. It already had the later intake pipe fitted but i don't know at what milage this was put on. The car has done 180k
Thanks in advance.

I think the answer is in the solonoids... i disconnected my pump recently and both sides maintianed their height, although the wheels were hanging midair before i replaced the pump and dropped it again....

I know that it is in the spare tire trunk area because i saw the mechanic replacing mine a while ago, but can't remember now which one is.
