So I did some searches, and it seems that people are really afraid of getting stuck with a flat tire (if they switched from RFs) without a spare, and BMW doesn't have a big enough compartment (at least my E61 doesn't) for a spare.
This might seem like a radical idea but ... what about hanging the spare tire from the ceiling of the trunk (in the E61). If someone could engineer some sort of bracket, but a tire tote on the spare and hang it from the ceiling. Although it would intrude into the rear view just a bit, its would be a pretty cool solution don't you think?

Might be easier to just call the AAA/CAA or BMW Assist

That's strange, mine has the spare wheel just lying in the compartment below the floor.

you are talking about the E61 Touring, right?

I need to have a solution for this too. At the moment I have the under-floor storage compartment in the boot, but would no doubt have to swap that for a spare-wheel compartment. Do you have the thin BMW spare-wheel in the back?

I don't understand yor problem,
I got my spare wheel in the compartment underneath the under-floor-storage under the trunk. Well, there's not enough space for a 20" rim, but how many times do you change a flat wheel...
I think it would look sh*tty to hang the spare wheel under the trunk ceiling..

Yes, mine is also under that compartment. It is a thin wheel compared to the other ones, but it's not that skinny like you see on some other cars.

Sure, as long as you don't mind being dependent on other people for your safety and security.

Non-RFT for both winter and summer, and I removed my spare.

Tow trucks have been invented...

I will probably regret posting that!

If that's a primary concern switch back to runflats Use a skinny spare, get a spray in sealer. You have to compromise somewhere! I wouldn't want a spare hanging from my ceiling!

I don't like waiting for tow trucks either but they have been helpful in a couple of situations.
