I have an '05 535D Msport and am looking to move to non-RF when current tyres are worn out. I asked dealer for a spare to put in boot well but was told it can't be done due to boot close mechanism encroaching into the well.
Has anyone else with E61 experienced this or ideas on how I overcome the issue? I can't really drive around on non-RF and not have some sort of spare.

Hi
I bought a space-saver spare tyre kit from my local dealer for my 535d touring late last year when I switched to non-RF tyres. The kit includes jack, wheel brace and 'compact wheel and tyre' - basically it's a get out of jail-free card. You'll need to remove the carpet lining that sits in the spare wheel well to make it fit, and this is pinned into place with plastic push-clips. Unless dealer will install FOC for you....? Expect to pay around ?180 for the kit though..... But at least you won't be stuck by the road side.
Even if I hadn't changed rims, a think a spare is a common-sense idea anyway. The thought of being a few hundred miles from home on a Friday afternoon with a flat and waiting for the AA recovery truck to arrive when I can't drive any further on a run-flat that has totally expired (that could even screw your rim, as happened to a friend with an M3) is something I don't wish to entertain.
Hark, is that the ring of the dealer's cash-register I can hear...????

Geoff thank you for your reply. Would you be able to dig out your invoice and let me have a part number. Still not getting any help from dealer. Thanks Guy.
