Ultimately I guess it just depends on how close to the rear window they are, as the E61 boot is quite large im guessing it will be better that many so called proper people carriers like the Zafira or Focus Smax, in those the kids faces really are against the back window on the last row of seats ?
I presume you mean C-Max and not S-Max? The rear most 2 seats in the S-Max are well away from the rear door - there's still plenty of boot space and the bumper is HUGE - sticks out about 6 inches beyond the rear hatch. Zafira is another matter - there's no boot space with the rear seats up and so I agree I wouldn't want my kids in the back of one of those. The S-Max was the only one I'm willing to put people into all 7 seats. The seats are proper seats as well, not flimsy make-shift ones.

I stand corrected on the Ford, never seen a 7 seat version of that in the flesh, was just a guess on those

Good on Ford for putting in proper seats as well........another huge annoyance of mine with other car makers hehehehehhehe

Wow been off for a couple of days and there's a fair response. Thanks guys.

The crumple zone issue did pop into my head. Anyone got any crash test pics of a touring?

I've driven a V70 and I'm sure its not a bad car all round but it was really dull to drive. I'm sure some people carriers are fun but I'm just not a fan of them and am hoping the e61 will do the job with the help of a trip to the doc to stop me having any more

Suppose every drive is a risk to some extent and putting 2 kids in the boot for short trips may sound low risk but as they say most accidents happen close to home on short trips on roads you know!

I know. 2 seats in the boot and weld in a roll cage!

Nope chesney72, it's not possible for the E61.

But in the new X5 it is.

Yeah! Terrible! Most accidents happen ~ 30miles around home. It's safer to change your address

I wondered about a 7-seat possibility too.

Even considered a MB E-class wagon as they have seats for 7.

But after I tried sitting in the way-back I realized seats for 7 and physically seating 7 actual people are two different things.

I'm not sure there's enough room in the back of a Mercedes for 2 people of any size, and I think the BMW is the same.

I'll keep watching this tread... I'd love to see it work!
