My Ride: 2010 E60 535i Sportline, 20" wheels, soon-to-be custom stereo
Default

I just got a 10.5” Android screen with trunk handle backup camera to replace my 6” CCC screen in my 2010 535i… I’ve seen videos on the install and it seems easy enough… the only real foreseeable problem is getting the wire from the camera through the rear ‘bulkhead’ that separates the cabin from the trunk… I don’t have fold down seats or a pass through… does anyone have any suggestions as to where to route the wires through into the cabin

thx!!

Default stumped at the hatch hinge

Once I had the rear speaker removed and the cable dangling, I had to figure out how to fish it to the passenger side trim. I used trim tools to gently pry away the black, flocked rubber trim that meets the headliner. I was then able to take a long zip tie (1/4" thick like law enforcement uses) and fish it FROM trim side TO speaker area. Here's the trick: the speaker itself has an 1/8" notch at the top of it's mounting plate which would face the front of the car if installed. This makes the perfect chase for the cable to come down out of the speaker cavity. You can then affix the cable to the zip tie and fish it back to the trim area. Be gentle but not too shy as there are some blind obstacles to finesse on the way to the trim.

Once at the trim I used my thumb to get between the rubber trim and headliner as I place the cable in the gap behind. Tough to explain but intuitive as mentioned before.

I got into the glove box by routing by its hinge. There was no trim removal the entire route and zero evidence of the cable.

Once I got to the glove box I looked up in the sky and saw a flock of doves flying under a rainbow and knew I had arrived…

More to come on when I actually get time to hook it all up in the dash.

Anyone else tackling this project feel free to PM me.

Thanks again sfcacique.
I routed the wire through the glove box and then under the passenger side kick panels into the battery box, I could not figure out how to route through the hinge because there doesn't seem to be any more space for an additional wire so I currently have wire running from battery box to trunk trim (yes sandwhiching the wire in the trunk). Learned this won't work after washing my car and learning my headliner is soaked from the gap the wire creates. I don't understand how anyone is fishing the wire through the tiny hinge.
