I have the panoramic sunroof, which is superb for giving a bright airy interior.

But the roof rattles like mad over rough surfaces. So bad I rarely can hear the creaky door seals - LOL !

Anybody else found this problem - or more importantly any idea of cure.

Going into dealer for service soon but on past experience don't expect much help from them ?

I noticed my roof rattles when i close the door. Was service able to fix your rattle?

Short answer, no they didn't fix it. Been in twice, first time they seemed to do nothing, second time took roof out and refitted, but rattles as badly as before.
Rattles from left hand rear end of front roof panel - passenger sitting holding it stops the rattle, but not ergonomically sound for a long journey !

Seem to be out of ideas

I had a 2001 X5 4.4 and for 3 years my dealer worked on the rear hatch rattle. It finally went away about a year ago. My new e61 sun roof does not rattle. I guess its just the luck of the draw....keep trying!

A couple of thoughts - although I don't have direct experience of the rattles, I've heard of the following solutions :

E61 - try some bearing grease on the runners and spray silicon lubricant where you can't reach with the grease.

The X5 rattles could have come from the plastic trim surrounding the rear hatch, sometimes the plastic locating clips snap.

I don't generally come into the touring forum, but your post was the one I could see from the main forum top menu. My non-touring E60 does this. It sounds to me like the cable directly above my head perhaps has some slack in it, allowing it to slap against some part of the roof or headliner. Sounds like what I'd imagine a rubberized cable would sound like hitting plastic or metal.

I have not had my car in yet for any service whatsoever, but I plan to have this addressed by the dealer when I do. I plan to ask them to adjust the tension on the cables that are used to operate the sunroof.
