I originally posted in the e60 forum a question about a rear end whine when applying the brakes, but it *may* be something unique to those of us with e61's.

So here goes:

When coming to a slow stop in city driving, I'm getting a whine in the rear of my 2006 530xiT after I apply the brakes and just before the car comes to a full stop. It sounds as if it could pneumatic or something which balances pressure.

Could it be the self-leveling rear suspension and is it normal?

its sounds similiar to what i had on mine, more noticable if you reverse and then brake lightly i.e. parking, mentioned it to dealer and it is a known fault, they are under instruction to replace the rear brake pads as part of the warranty (UK) I dont have any paperwork to quote as being a warranty issue means i didnt get a works sheet for it,hope this helps.
