It probably doesn't look so bad on that car as it's silver. On a dark car I think it would look out of place.
It's a bit like the Saab 9-5 with those stupid 'glasses' around the headlights. On silver cars, you hardly see them, on black cars they look ridiculous.

...as tasteful as it is though, I'm not so much a fan of that chrome strip...I love my rear end naked and chrome free (not even a round BMW emblem or a 550i badge):

I personally like the debadged clean look anyway and debadge my cars, and on top of that, want to keep people guessing as to which car just spanked them when I pass them and they struggle to keep up!
