I recall reading somewhere (can't find the link for the life of me) that the Contis are made out of a much harder compound than the Dunlops. This will contribute towards them sounding niosier than the Dunlops. The flipside of this is, of course, that the softer compound Dunlops will wear more quickly. I'm running Dunlop RFTs at the moment and, with only 6,500km/4,000 miles on them, they are looking rather the worse for wear - they are noticeably worn. No experience with the Contis for my current car, but the (non RFT) Conti SportContact2s on my E39 took a regular bashing and still looked pristine after 16,000km/9,900 miles.
Am on a business trip at the moment, so can't nip out to check exactly which Dunlops are on my car, but will post an update when I'm home at the weekend.
Remember also that, at higher speeds, it's not just your tyres roaring. Wind going past and around those wing mirrors at 100mph will create quite a lot of noise.

I guess the reason for the Dunlops being less noisier than the Conti's very well could be the tyre's compound. If I recall correctly, the Dunlops which the car was delivered with, got worn out pretty quickly. After 30 000 km they were more or less slicks...
On monday I'm going back to the tyre dealer, as the managed to scratch two if the rims when switching to Dunlops, and hit something to the third rim, causing a big ugly damage.
