Choice of partner or car is at least partly an emotional one, logic tends to be suppressed to a surprising degree.

My Ride: 2006 523i steptronic (delivered 22nd Sept. 2005) solid black, amethyst dakota leather, styling 124 18" PS2
It makes sense. Same low-end torque with less weight is "better" if the objective is to shuffle kids back and forth from school and do some shopping. So I think my 523i is even "better" than the 545i, factoring in the cost.

My Ride: 2007 550i - Monaco Blue with Auburn Interior. Sport, auto. Ordered 10-30-06
There is a TON of M5 bashing going on out there. In the last two weeks, I've read two articles that hit the M5 with shrapnel. One in Motor Trend or R&T (can't remember) the new M3 was on the cover. Somehow they spent half the M3 review slamming the M5. This is the M3 that's had it's production roll delayed by almost a year now. Yesterday, I was reading an article in Fortune reviewing the Audi A5, and they slammed the M5 in the review- weird since the cars are kind of different.
I see on carsdirect.com, you can get a pretty deep discount on an '07 M5 - over 3K. If they show a discount, it means the fleet managers are really trying to move the cars.
I hope the bashing keeps up. Keep driving the price down. Then maybe when my lease is up, the step up (10K? Alex, you're crazy man- it?s more like 25K) won't be so big.
I'd be driving an M5 if they weren't so freaking ex$pensive. I think they're over priced by 15K.

Vmax with 6th -> 300Km/h
Vmax with 7th -> over 330 Km/h
PS: The M5 is much, much better car than my previous e60.

So much emotion. Who really cares which is "better" - seriously. Faster or more torque does not equal "better". The M5 and the 550 are two variations on the world's best sports sedan, each with it's own charms....just depends what you want.
For me part of owning an M5 is not to have the "most expensive" or arguably the "fastest" car. I love the sound of the engine, the cool technology, and the pleasure of owning a BMW "motorsport" edition. As far as people hating the car, I have never had anyone one tell me that they hate my car, but people come up to me all the time and say "wow, nice car".
Everyone should drive what they want. I just don't understand all the negativity about what is "better". If you think your particular model is better then the others that's great, you made the right decision and are driving the right car for you.

No, sorry : the best E60 is the B5 with a little Quaife added .
I'm sorry you can't buy it outside Europe .
The M5 is too heavy and too thirsty .
