My Ride: 09 M5 (E60) Interlagos blue, Silverstone interior, with cold weather package. Adaptive Xenon headlamps and adaptive brake lights, hud, comfort access. Comfort seats, basically fully loaded.
I have a pal who has an m3, says that after 50k miles all M cars need a valve adjustment or some timing adjustment that is very important for the car. It falls under the category of inspection 2. Any info plz shed some light. This is suppose to run around 1200 to 1500 dollars w/ the stealers.

valve lifters do not need adjustments like the S54 (E46 M3) engine does.
I got this from a press release about the S85 engine>>
The one-piece aluminium cylinder heads of the V10 engine are arranged in banks. The V10 power unit features four valves per cylinder, a typical BMW trait. All valve train components are of low mass. Thus, for example, the M engines feature for the first time low-weight, flow-optimised 5 mm-shaft valves, spherical valve tappets with hydraulic valve play compensation and single valve springs. All this results in a considerable mass reduction, which is a prerequisite for the realisation of the high-revving concept.
"Hydraulic valve play compensation" = No valve adjustments like the E46 M3

yes every bmw needs an inspection 1 and 2, i believe inspection 2 happens at 90-100k miles and its a comprehensive tune up. at least it was on my '88 528. never made it that far w my e60/e90

The S85 does not use solid valve lifters like the S54 engine does. Cars without solid

not sure about the M3
maybe i'm stating the obvious
e60 (including m5) moved to condition-based service monitored thru idrive
inspection 1 and 2 are irrelevant

My Ride: E60 BMW ///M5 V10
On my E46 and E39 the Inspection 2 was at 60k miles. Never did it on either of em, the E46 I sold with 67k miles on it and it had no problems. The E39 currently has 110k miles on it, aside from a few new parts at 100k miles everything else is stock and working fine...
