Very nice looking car.

Not to disturb the enjoyments but to keep you informed . . . hope the car didn't come out of Houston, Texas. I saw one in the same color in a body shop yard in the Heights with rear right passenger damage.

Nope, the car came out of Whitby Ontario. I checked the history etc to make sure it wasn't a wreck or a dealer buy back etc. Alway a worry when it's not factory direct...

Love the color combo - just fantastic !
What kind of winter setup will you be running (rims, tires) ?

Congrats and enjoy that beast !
Thanks! The winter rims are 184s (18 inch) with Michelin Alpins (see sig). They are the BMW recommended set up for the M5. I bought them last year and ran them on my 550 but the front would rub on the inner wheel tub with a full turn of the wheel when parking. Another reason why I needed the M5!

Here is a photo of the winters on my 550:

Bought it from Brian Jessell. Bought my 550 and X3 there too - good to deal with.

Looks fantastic. Great photo.

What are your initial impressions on the differences between your 550i and the M5?
I have not really had a chance to drive it - I picked it up yesterday but had my kids with me and it's been pouring rain so haven't had a chance to take it down my favouite roads. The first thing I noticed was the steering in the M5 is much lighter than the active steering in the 550 and has a totally different feel. Having driven a couple of high output cars in the past I expected the M5 to be more raw and explosive but the power is really smooth and suits the car perfectly. It's scary how easily and smoothly it gets up to speed. It doesn't have that low end torque off the line that the 550 had, but it's a really different engine - you can cruise down the street at 4,000 rpm and car isn't "screaming". I am looking forward to testing the different suspension settings. My 550 had the M-sport suspension which IMO was absolutely perfect. I am also learning the SMG which is new to me.

These are very initial impressions but I will report back once I have logged some miles and ridden the learning curve with the car. The M5 and 550 are 2 different cars, each with their own charms and feel.

Non performance wise I love how much softer the Full Merino Leather is than the Dakota leather in my 550. I'm in heaven.

Well, after chiming in on many post saying a M5 is not practical, a 550 is better value, etc, etc.......and after wondering if I could sleep if night if I drove a car that gets 9 mpg...

I traded in my 06 550 almost 2 years to the day that I got it for an 06 M5 (with 13,000 km on it) I brought it home today - wow what a car! I never would have picked Indianapolis Red if I were ordering but man does it look good! I will post more picture when I get a sunny day.

Just curious why you need winter tires in vancouver? For one if temperature is what you are worreid about all season tires have the correct rubber compounds for grip in the cold. Second for the amount of snow you see in vancouver you could EASILY get by with a/s tires. I lived in edmonton for 15 years and nobody I knew in that time had winter tires-a good set of all seasons was all anyone had and winters are far worse than vancouver.

Just makes no sense to have to throw an ugly set of huge winter tires on a beautiful car-550 or m5 when it is completely unncessary nor will insurance every nto cover all season tired car.

Great car though!

A/S tires are crap, both winter and summer, and they defiantly doesn't belong on a E60. Under 6?C summer tires gets too hard, and you'll need winter tires, even if it doesn't snow or freezes. Trust me, in Sweden the only thing our car magazines are testing are winter tires...
