Indeed tragic news. My heart goes out to the families. R.I.P. The sad part is, it could have all been prevented. Please becareful out there. Life is short enough.

As I wrote in a previous post about this horrific crash ...

"Even the best of engineering can't compensate for stupidity ... these kids must have thought themselves invincible. I can't imagine who, in their right mind, would intentionally turn such a powerful car over to irresponsible young adults." (I previously wrote 'children' but at 18yrs of age they were just about to enter 'adulthood' and I realize that some would not consider them children.)

Unfortunately many people will blame the car, an M5, and not its owner or operator.
19 year olds do think they are invincible, which is why they were flying down a runway in the dark. It is a tragic result. I have to wonder what a 19 year old was doing with the keys to his father's M5?

That article got it wrong, it wasn't his dad's. He traded in his 3 series for the M5.

i think the car was bone stock. you can have all the speed mods in the world but ultimately its you the driver that makes the decisions. so keep on modding and drive safely on public roads.

One article I read said the car was registered to his dad (I think his name was Santo) so even if it was "Josh's" car, it's unlikely that he paid for it at age 18. I do feel bad about the tragedy but I can't get past the fact that the kid's parents either bought him the car or allowed him to have the keys. Either way, it's like handing him a loaded gun with a hair trigger.

(I realize that any car can kill so maybe my loaded gun analogy isn't perfect but an M5 is not just "any car" and a car of that magnitude/caliber in the hands of an inexperienced/immature driver -- Josh admitted that he was inexperienced but "responsible" in his posts -- is just asking for trouble.)

I don't know of any off hand (but I suppose it's possible)...

The only forum member that I'm aware of that we lost (not due to anything automotive related) is JDN. http://www.e60.net/jdn

Rudy, I was never fortunate enough to have had any corresopondance with JDN , but I know he was an extremely well respected member and friend to many here. I'm aware that you were very close to him and certainly feel for you and all of the members who called him a friend.

Cheers
