Holy crap! This is a sad story, but you can barley make out that it is an M5 by the quick glimse of a wheel. The car is totally unrecognizable!

That's horrible. Not even worth thinking what was going through their heads as that car left the runway.

Thoughts are with the families

Didn't realize it at first, but one of my buddies posted up on another non-BMW related board saying he lost 5 friends that were in that M5. RIP.

As I wrote in a previous post about this horrific crash ...

"Even the best of engineering can't compensate for stupidity ... these kids must have thought themselves invincible. I can't imagine who, in their right mind, would intentionally turn such a powerful car over to irresponsible young adults." (I previously wrote 'children' but at 18yrs of age they were just about to enter 'adulthood' and I realize that some would not consider them children.)

Unfortunately many people will blame the car, an M5, and not its owner or operator.

+1. Now the lawsuits begin...the airstrip owners, the owner of the car (who lost a son), BMW (for making such an attractive high-powered vehicle), BMWNA for selling it...yada yada yada. One minor note, in one news story, a witness mentions engines. Could it be there were others out there on the airstrip racing?
