A. There will not be a 600 HP Audi RS6 - it's 550 hp unless you have information I haven't seen.
B. Let's say you're right, and the loss is 20%, then you're looking at 440 rwhp - 10 rwhp more than the M5.
C. The New RS6 will certainly be heavier than the M5, so the Hp/weight ratio will not be significantly better
D. If they go 7 sp DSG, then it could be very close - otherwise they'll have a gearing disadvantage - we'll have to see.
E. I'll bet you lunch the new RS6 doesn't beat the E60 M5 on a highway run from 100 - 200 kph. The M5's are recording times in the low 9 second range.
F. The "well, wait until they come out with the..." argument is pretty lame in general. We're talking about cars that exist today.
I'll bet you it does & by enough of a margin to turn over your recent experience.

As an owner (up until 8 weeks ago) of a modified RS6 i can state that my car was an exact match for the DMS modified E60 M5, both cars running the exact same power (give or take about 5BHP), but the RS6 having 2 fairly large turbos having more torque (similar turbo set-up to the 535D). Car's were drawn on 0-60, 0-100, 0-150 & VAMX time trapped speeds of 181MPH.

So i think it's fair to say that if a heavily modified E60 M5 can only match an exact same power RS6, then a standard M5 would not. That then meaning that a standard new RS6 expected to be around 550+BHP will also leave a standard E60 M5. The new RS6 expected again to be bi-turbo will have significantly more tuning options & could break well into 600+BHP for only a couple of thousand ??'s.

Finally the new RS6 is not expected until mid-late 2007 & has still not been officially announced by Audi. My name is still top of the pre-list at my Audi Dealers, although i doubt very much i'll take one as my heart is set on a very different car for early 2008.

Agree though that a standard current RS6 is no match for the current E60 M5. The differences would not be huge, but the M5 would certainly win. Of course in less than perfect driving conditions, the RS6 would have a significant traction advantage & don't forget it's trick DSP system which alters damper settings & makes for exciting but sure-footed handling in non-dry driving conditions & track work.

Right now, if i was offered a current M5 & current RS6 (although they stopped production last year) i'd take the M5, but also be aware that the RS6 is & has always been available in Avant (estate) & Saloon where the M5 is still Saloon only with an estate expected later this year/early next. If i was offered a current M5 or a new RS6 (assuming they produce it), i'd probably take the new RS6, however i do love the E60 M5.
