Agree with Wolverine.? No way the base is <85k, and if you max it out it will be just >100k with options, tax, gas guzzler, etc.

I bet we will see some stealers try and sell them for 110 (and prolly get it).

A maxed out 545 is around 77k MSRP, so there has to be some diff above that.? 85k would be at least 20k over a basic 545.

It's possible the base on the M5 might be even higher, say 90k.? Alot will depend on production allocation (# of units) in the first year.? Supply and demand.? Simple economics - and marketing!

Not wanting to nitpick, but a fully loaded 545 is only 70k. I deliberately did not include taxes since we can normalize things a bit and remove that line-item from all of the vehicles.

Was the E39M5 $20k more than a 540? That would mean that a 540 was $49k, and I think it was closer to $55k. I don't remember exactly, but I don't think it was anywhere near that much more. $15k maybe, but not $20k.

Observe also, that a loaded lower model in a series always approaches the base price of the next higher model in that series.

Anyway, I don't think the E60M5 will be any more than the E55 (where the E55 is optioned to be comparable to a "base" M5 and has an $85k MSRP), and it could be a fair bit less.

We'll see when BMWNA releases the official pricing. Until then, this is all completely theoretical. I'm just basing my assumptions on historical trends.

Going to get hit with that on a 645 I ordered. It's disturbing how SUV's and trucks don't seem to get hit by this with the majority being used as daily drivers.
At least there's no longer a luxury tax....

Must be an SMG thing. No guzzler tax on Step (mine) and not sure about manual.

Hey, I hope you're right, I just don't see it though. The way the reviews are coming in, and the plunge of the $ against the Euro, I think the M5 base price will be closer to $90K than $80K. I'm expecting to place the order sometime this summer though, so we'll see!

I would have surely thought that if the EUR<->USD thing were such a huge deal that BMW would jack the prices on new 3er, too, since it stands to make or lose way more on it than on the M5.

However, there must be _lots_ of wiggle room in there since the 2006 330 is actually _cheaper_ than a comparably equipped 2005 330 (and the new 330 gets Logic7 and not the HK system from before).

Now how much BMWNA has to do with all this vs. BMWAG is anyone's guess. BMWNA might be cutting into their profit margin to keep the prices more competitive.

My 545i was around 74K MSRP, but then again, I added the ventilated seats which pushed it up to this number.

A M5 with options loaded will easily be over $100K.

I mean, a 645Ci coupe with options loaded is $80K.... there's no way an M5 will be less than that.

I remember the Z8's $25K mark-up sometime back. Not many of them were sold.

$25 K mark up is 25% of the car cost? That's insane.
