and besides since you like your german mags how about this
7:40 ? 161.217 km/h ? Mercedes Benz McLaren SLR, Klaus Ludwig (Autobild 07/2004)
strangely how you missed that one?

7:52 ? 157.119 km/h ? BMW M5 (E60), 507 PS/1844 kg

8:09---BMW M6 (2/06) BMW Official test run

....at around 7:40 we have
7:36 ? 162.631 km/h ? Porsche Carrera GT, factory test driver Walther R?hrl (2002)
7:39 ? 161.575 km/h ? Koenigsegg CCR, 806 PS/1180 kg
7:40 ? 161.217 km/h ? Porsche GT3 RS, stock but Pirelli P Zero Corsa, Mattias Ekblom (ams)
7:40* ? 161.217 km/h ? Porsche Carrera GT, *cold and partially wet track (sport auto 12/2003)

and if you tell me that the SLR is not one of the best machines ever created i will have to laugh
http://www.gumball-3000.com/rally/2006/02/...g-nordschleife/
Its a good engineering acheivement (well in my opinion Mclaren's achevement ), But in my opinion I think it looks ugly, porsche carrera GT is more my style.

Good old chap, I don't know who the ...uck is ZNOD and its credibility...
But for sure I know the Ring and the credibility of "Auto Motor und Sport"

Take some German lessons and follow the link:
http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/d/71199

Besides that, I've stated that SLR and M5 are able to make the same time at the Ring.
If you are talking about High-speed on a "de-restricted" highway, there's no question about the SLR, but the ring is not exactly and Oval or a 4 just curve circuit...
I suggest that you compile your own list and post it here rather than sending others off to do your work. Incidentally, I did not complile the list. The list is widely circulated on the web. Also, it is not very friendly or useful to send non-German speakers to a German magazine--suggesting that they take German lessons first. I would be very interested in what is there, but, looking at the mag, I couldn't make heads or tails of much of anything.

good looking is subjective my friend i for that matter really love both designs. The slr reminds me of the slick sliver bullet mercedes roadsters of the 1930s... Carrega GT is also a stunner

BULL$HIT ALERT
since my BS meter was set off and i knew for sure there was somethign wrong with your numbers.
My complete list is below. It looks like you posted a shorten special-purpose list I posted elsewhere. The list supposedly contains "confirmed" Ring times. I found the list on the Z06 forum and do not know who compiled it or how accurate it is. I have added a few items as I happened across them.

The record for a "production" car is held by the ?Radical? (however ?production car? is defined). The cars with #?s before them are ?modified cars? (however defined). The cars with an HVS designation supposedly were driven by Horst Von Saurma of Sport Auto Magazine.

There are several M5 times below. In regard to the C6 Z06, Dave Hill, the Corvette Platform manager, confirmed that Jan Magnussen lapped the Nurburing in 7:43 in an unmodified, stock tire, 2006 Corvette Z06. Apparently, Autoweek reported the Z06?s run, but mistakenly attributed the run to the rumored "Blue Devil" super-Z06. The latest Roundel indicates that the M6 has lapped the Ring in 8:09 seconds--which puts the M6 in pretty select company. BMW engineers believe it could get close to 8:00 without the governor. I have listed cars that we might be particularly interested in in bold.

I suggest that you compile your own list and post it here rather than sending others off to do your work. Incidentally, I did not complile the list. The list is widely circulated on the web. If you can correct it with confirmed results, then please do so. Also, it is not very friendly or useful to send non-German speakers to a German magazine--suggesting that they take German lessons first. I would be very interested in what is there, but, looking at the mag, I couldn't make heads or tails of much of anything.
Sorry znod, I didn't really linked your "username" to the list I always use in the first place and I really did miss the Klaus Ludwig time 7:40, like 700700 stated.
Regarding all the remaining coments, I apologise myself if you have considered that I was somehow insulting with that post I've made... It was never my intention

Your list is one of the first places which I always consult regarding the Ring and I have nothing to state against its credibility. I imagine you had lots of work to create it, and still do to keep it updated. Thanks for sharing it with us...

A Mit Lancer EVO can outrun an M5. That's way too cool considering the price. I think it can also hang with a Lambo Murchielago in one of the Top Gear videos, too.

No problem, but, as indicated, I did not compile the list and am far from sure about its complete accuracy. And, you are very welcome.

To me there is one thing I really hate about Mercedes is ESP. You just can?t turn it off!!! When you driving on the track you can feel that the chassis and suspension can push much further at corners as if the ESP doesn?t kick in.
