In the end. Mercedes is still garbage.
i dont think so .. although i love my 530i .. i test drove the cls 350 and it is one hell of a car .. i acctually wanted to go for the cls but comparing the prices the..... 5 series seemed like a better option .. so if i did have a choice i would go for the cls .. maybe my next car

Love this site cause we do have very opinionated members!

You will need to spend a lot more money to equal or better the performance of an M5.
My 02 Z06 will at least keep up with an M5 in any type of race, and the new Z06 is much less expensive than an M5 and will beat it in any type of race with ease.

Znod, "yeah, but the M5 is more than . . . " How about we somehow supercharge that V10. Now that, I want to see everybody will be doing this . . . cls 55 amg beating an m5 from start-worshipbmw.gif

...Mercedes may have the faster car right now & the M5/M6 is the best that BMW can offer at the moment. But I'm sure BMW is not taking this sitting down. Who knows, we may see a nastier M5 in a year or two.
Yes, but it comes from the other camp. It's called the CLS AMG 63...a 6.2L, V8 that is normally aspirated.

I like both manufacturers for what they have to offer. If BMW was truly the 'best', you'd be paying a lot more than you did to drive one. Thank goodness for competition.

if you could afford an amg you would be saying otherwise
[/quote]

Why is it that when someone expresses their opinion on disliking a paricular car the reason always HAS TO BE that they can't afford the car, because if they could afford it they would surely be saying otherwise. Well.....

A. You don't know whether he can or can't afford the car.

B. Even if he couldn't afford a CLS55 it does not necessarily make his opinion any less valid. Maybe he has done a lot of research, driven many MB's and even owned some MB's in the past and as a result has come up with that opinion. That would be a valid opinion regardless of whether he could afford the CLS55 now or not.

C. Anyone who can afford a BMW can also afford the comparable MB model because the price difference is not that much. Even the M5 and CLS55 are not priced that much apart. In the US anyone who can afford $84,895 for the M5 can also afford $89,075 for the CLS55 (including destination charge and Gas Guzzler Tax). If anyone is going to spend almost $85,000 for a car then a $4,000 price difference is not significant. So being able to afford a BMW model and not the comparable MB model does not make sense since they are priced so close to each other.

I remember back in the Roadfly E60 forum days when people expressed their opinons about not liking the E60's design the same "you say that because you can't afford it" argument was thrown at them too. For those that remember the Roadfly days I am not talking about the usual well known Trolls, but normal people expressing their opinions. I did not think it was valid then and I don't think it is now.

exactly it is not about money. but in fact that is why I hate MB and their owners..... to them the car is all about money and making some kind of stupid statement????? Escpecially having a lot of money to spend on car the MB would be the last option

nothing special, the CLS55 amg is described by most to be the best driver oriented amg
in the last decade. It has a completely different steering column, and is not only much
more responsive on the road, but there is a lot of "feel" of the car..

The CLS55 Amg is 80kg lighter than a similarly specced e55 amg... If fully loaded (since
it has more possible extras) it is as heavy, but thats a different case..
While it's true that MB has tried to make the AMG CLS more driver oriented, I don't think it's there yet. In October I drove two different CLS55's at IRP. The power and torque were wonderful, of course, and I had no problem getting to the 130 mph mark at the end of the 1/4 mile trap. As soon as I dove into the right sweeper onto the road course portion of the track though, it became obvious that the CLS was not a handler. It had adequate grip, but there was still too much body roll, the responses were soft, and the thing's just too heavy. Of course, I think that's fine with a lot of the target audience. I know I would have had much more fun in even a non-M E60 sport pack, or better yet, a Porsche.

The CLS sure is pretty, though. If I just wanted something to park in my garage and look at, I might consider!

Also drove the CL65. Monster torque; still not much fun on the twisties.
