It has 777 mega so it's quite big.
I want to make a few drawbacks. The CLS won only in automatic mode.. (reviewed the movie)
1/4 times in automatic:
CLS 55 AMG ON 12,901 OFF 12,752
BMW M5 ON 13,480 OFF 13,074.
The times where in automatic mode in mode sport or the sportiest.
In SMG mode: 13,174 for mb and 13,144 for bmw.
I don't think bmw used launch control at this run though.
Other than that the m5 won at:
-braking: in shorter distance and with more G's on braking (over 1,02 G at all runs).
-slalom: cls 17,404 sec / m5 15,451 sec.
Also on a track with time sectors here's how the m5 handled against an m3 csl and a porsche 997 carrera s.
total lap time / split 1 / split 2 / speed
Porsche:
1,41,419 / 16,059 / 24,604 / 206,1 km/h
M3 CSL:
15,743 / 24,728 / 204,2 km/h
M5:
16,120 / 25,072 / 216,4 km/h
(the total lap time for the cls and m5 is not given).
Then they had a race typical for best motoring: M5, 997 carrera s, csl, gt-r and galliardo.
The most important thing is that the galliardo won on the final lap at photo finish, m3 and m5 following it. So funny how the csl tryed to overtake the m5 but couldn't do it because although the csl was faster aroudn corners while m5 was litteraly drifting not to loose it's spot, then the m5 kept detaching on the straights as it was more powerfull and better gearbox. Then the csl caught it again aroudn corners and againg lost on straights. IT was a dead even.
THIS TEST WAS TAKEN IN PROFFESIONAL RACING CONDITIONS, BY PROFFESIONAL RACIND RIVERS, WITH PROFFESIONAL MEASURING GADGETS
It was more than conclusive in all perspectives at all cars. It was fun to watch although i didn't understand much from those japaneese comments.

Yes, but:
C&D--4.2 12.5 @ 118 (US version)
R&T--4.1 12.4 115.8 (non-US version)
Personally, I prefer the US version results as 118 is very impressive. And, there is the discrepancy we talked about in the R&T article. In this regard, the non-US version actually may have been slower than 12.4. Reiterating for those that haven't noticed:
"Hi cd:
My R&T was waiting for me when we got home. I noticed something interesting to me. Note the following.
M6:
0-110 = 10.9
1/4 mile = 12.4 @ 118.1
0-120 = 12.7
M5:
0-110 = 11.3
1/4 mile = 12.4 @ 115.8
0-120 = 13.3
I think that the M6 really as much as, for example, .09 quicker in the quarter than the M5. For example, maybe the M6's unrounded time was, for example, 12.35, while the M5's was, for example, 12.44. These hypothesized values, as well as other similar ones, seem more consistent with the above data than the 12.4 values reported. In any case, I think the M6's 1/4 time seems too slow. Maybe this value is simply misreported in the article. I am more comfortable with 12.4 for the M5 than for the M6."

In the end. Mercedes is still garbage.

it is the power and handling that makes a great car .....

true true very true. I keep reminding myself that accel is not the only important fact that makes a good car. the cls would probably fly off the road in the first shapr curve.... here comes the M5

We have all been down this road before. Striaght line acceleration is fairly objective. "Handling" is fairly subject because of road condition, weather, driver (subjective subject). So let's not go down the "handling" road. There might be a theorectical argument for weight distribution, but that's it folks.

CLS 55 vs. M5 is a fair square match, but the SL 65 is a different story unless some tuners come out with some sort of forced induction, be it turbos or supercharger, then it would be a different story.

I'm not surprised at all that the CLS beats the M5....383lbft vs. 516 lbft of torque does make a huge difference. I love both cars...and if given enough cash to choose one I wouldnt know what to choose...
Now....if only the M5 has an extra 100 lb ft of torque

Love this site cause we do have very opinionated members!
To me it all about bragging rights. Mercedes may have the faster car right now & the M5/M6 is the best that BMW can offer at the moment. But I'm sure BMW is not taking this sitting down. Who knows, we may see a nastier M5 in a year or two. For me, the question is did I even consider buying a merc before emptying my bank acct on an M5? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! IMO if you consider everything(especially pricing), the M5 is a better value than any AMG out there. You will need to spend a lot more money to equal or better the performance of an M5. I'll keep my M5 & use my savings on an exotic vacation with my family. Just my honest opinion.

THE m5 and cls 55 amg were tested in the middle east... as i do not like
to show links to other sites i would just like to advice you to visit m5board for more info on the races...
But here is whats important,
Both cars were well run in (about 12000km for m5, 17000km for cls55)
Both cars are NOT us models so the m5 gets to use Full blast LC (and does)
the 2nd video is with the two drivers in the opposite cars, to make sure it was not driver error
if you could afford an amg you would be saying otherwise
JUST FOR BETTERMAKEWAY, the m5 used LC (and was set at MAXIMUM revs) for each one of the videos..
im sure you can hear it , no?
also some more links to other videos you might find interesting
