Genuine BMW part would have a warranty on its own. If done by a BMW dealership it would be covered especially at 2K miles. I would ask another dealer to look at it.

Since it's SMG the only way you can "customer" abuse it is by using LC over and over. Otherwise the SMG is not "customer" abuseable item. You can't feather the clutch or ride it since you don't have control over the process besides up and down with the paddle.

I have had 3 SMG cars in the 3 series line. Only one had a problem and they replaced it under warranty as a courtesy. My SA and I are very close. I had a clutch go bad probably due partially to me and not paying attention to feathering it from time to time. Doing burn outs and launch techniques on the M5 E39. I was prepared to take it on the chin and they took care of for me as well.

I would definately call BMW NA and let them know. I know they didn't like to CPO the M5 E60's in the first year and 2nd right? I originally stayed away from the 06 for that reason. I didn't know 07 was better for SMG.

I wish you luck hopefully you will find quick resolution.

When the clutch was changed in July was it done under warranty or out of the last owner's pocket? If it was done under warranty then you should have precedence.
it was fixed under warranty

I just don't see how your dealer is shying away from this.

flywheel,
throught bearing,
input shaft sleeve, all gone to hell

Then they should replace it... it was obviously installed incorrectly in the first place. Only explanation of how you can burn out a SMG clutch in 2K miles unless you're an idiot and really tried hard to burn it out.

+1. This is the only reasonable explanation. More to the point, if the car even lets you burn out a computer-controlled clutch in 2000 miles then BMW's software engineers have some explaining to do too. The most likel? cause has to be an installation issue or a defective part fitted during the July repair.

Or maybe the previous owner beat the shit out of the first clutch, got it replaced and beat the shit out of it within the short amount he had it and sold it to you.
