Red face

so i was driving yesterday on the prospect expressway, hit the M button just for a little more power, shifting at 4500 RPM, when i switched from 2 to 3rd i heard a big noise, saw my gearbox switch to 5th gear, my SMG shifter went numb, yes numb as in no matter what i did to it it would not do anything

then a light with a picture of a clutch showed on the mini display between the speedometer, and the revs,

so i pulled over turned the car off, turned it back on and the car will not drive.

i brought it bmw of manhattan, they have been looking into for the passed todays, and they say tomorrow their going to open up the transmission to determine the problem.

he also said that if the clutch is burnt it may not be covered under warranty because it is a wear and tare item, and that i would have to pay for this if there are any indications, such as "burn marks on the clutch".

first i have to ask

how the hell do you burn a clutch on an M5?

second,

why would that be my fault?

and third

has this happened to anyone else...

please help me out if you got any ideas... this is deff not my fault and i refuse to pay and excess of $3k when i got the car 2 weeks ago..

this car is an 06 with 29,786 miles.... what kind of BS is this

'06 M5s have been known to have SMG problems. Sorry to hear about the clutch problems. I hope you don't have to end up paying for the clutch.

from experience, here is some advice, get rid of it.

I have paid for a clutch out of my pocket. And, yes, the clutch can show signs of abuse directly on the metal.

Soon after, my SMG unit went out. I ended getting rid of the car to make a long story short.

Oh man.. I feel your pain... the only thing I can think of it maybe call a couple of different service centers just in case, give them the information and see what they say... I'm not saying it's
gonna work out but I have found that sometimes it helps.. I'm guessing it's because different reps and centers may have slightly different way of going about things... It's a long shot but
at least worth the effort in my opinion..

I will say that I have heard in the past that clutches are not covered but who knows..

Again, really sorry to hear this... please keep us posted..

then be prepared to pay out of your a$$ to fix it....
on the bright side, if you have the same problem more than 3 times you can lemon the vehicle and get all the $$$$$ you put into the vehicle.
