WHAT! was there even signs of abuse? that concerns me... if the clutches goes out at 40K miles with $4600 + tax thats crazy... what happened to clutches lasting over 100K miles? (when driven normally) that clutch must have been abused or something...
His car only has 30K miles.

Man that sucks. I thought I had heard some folks on M5Board that were able to get their clutch replaced under warranty. Seems like the issue is still not clear cut.

Eddie,
I had no clue you got rid of your car?? When was this and what are you driving now?
Yeah Tony. As of 3 weeks ago, the car is in a new home with my brother in Nevada.

I am over the car game now man, seriously. My company car is my daily mode of transportation, and has been. The M5 was only the weekend toy, and the POS still broke, LOL.

Damn. Did you part out your mods or did your brother get everything?

not abused. i had the car for 2 weeks. since i got it it smelled like burned clutch. i brought it in to bmw about 2 days after i rcvd the car from the freight company.. (who did not put one mile on the car).. and the service advisor over there said and i quote " i never owned an M but since i been working at BMW i smelled all kinds of funky smells from these cars and its normal.

also found out some interesting news. the clutch was changed this past july of 2009.. the owner that i bought it from is a very reputable guy who drove the car with his wife and kids. he said when his clutch went out at around 26,000 miles the bmw service center said it was normal..

the car now has 27,986 miles on it. even if i put this car on a track for 3 weeks and abused the hell out of it i doubt the clutch will go that easy. especially on an M car.. something is very fishy about this and i refuse to pay a dollar out of my pocket for a car that is still under warranty..

When the clutch was changed in July was it done under warranty or out of the last owner's pocket? If it was done under warranty then you should have precedence.

BTW, member mesincuci on here was having issues with his clutch and he just went to get it checked at BMW of SF and he just told me they are replacing it under warranty!! His car has 27K miles. I forwarded him this thread.

You need to try a different dealer or contact BMW NA.

Something doesnt sound right... so this clutch only has about 2000 miles on it? It sounds like the car is feathering the clutch all the time burning it...

BMW can totally see the records if it was repaired by BMW and if so there is 2 years of warranty on the replaced part, they should fix it with no cost to you.
