Does anyone know when the TCU SMG re-program will be released by ESS? I am probably going to keep my car stockish but I would buy this in an instant if it was for sale

I hear that the SMGII E46 owners love the ESS TCU tune.

This may help reduce clutch wear if the new settings make the shifting more crisp and less sloppy and lazy.
There are a couple of threads on M5Board discussing this so check there. I think they released it already but I didn't read through the whole thread.

Yeah I found the thread right after posting

I cannot wait for some reviews. I may be falling for the slippery mod path sooner than expected

OP: Did they ever give you any valid explanation why the SMG melted? How do you know it won't happen again in another few k miles? I read through this but didn't see anyone ask this. Glad you got this resolved to your satisfaction. A horror story for sure...

I just got my car back today.. new clutch kit under warranty.

The car feels completely different, the tranny actually blips on up -shifts now while it didn't before and hence the head bouncing effect. Now it shifts smooth with no loss of RPM. Must be the new software update they performed after replacing clutch.

My CA Auto tune has been flashed, means I need to get it re-tuned again.

Need to also run the clutch in about 200 miles.
Now was the clutch releasing bearing changed during the late 2005 M5 production, or was it the 2007 model year where the clutch release bearing was modified?

This would help me make a decision on the build years.

Also when was the SMG pump revised if any? Late 2005 Build, Late 2006 Builds, or 2007? They should be able to show this on the VIN if it was a recall?

They didn't have any recalls for the SMG and as far as I know, there has never been any info posted as to when the SMG pump was revised.

According to this post there was an SMG Pump recalll.......http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e60...ml#post1725529

I am also reading mix things that say a greased clutch release bearing should be install in a 2006 to ? M5 to prevent banging gearbox which will ultimately lead to a new clutch....

There has got to be a service bulletin somewhere stating the affected VINs?!?!?
My car is a July 2005 build, but calssified as a 2006 model! I don't know if any E60 M5 ever was clasified as a 2005 model. If so, I would like to see the vin number please.

My friend works for BMW, he is a Master Technician.

He said a M5 clutch will get 12 launch control starts per clutch.

So a second hand car will have been at the stealers for a while, everyone that has drive it will have done at least one launch control so its to be expected.

He even warned me not to buy a M5, they are all thrashed and as such the clutch will be cooked.

If you've had it two weeks, i would be sitting in reception talking very loud and letting all the customers know your story, if they try to get you into an office say no and stay put.

Kick off man!!!¬
